Most people think that Shanghai is only a modern city with no history.

But that's what we call a misconception -- faulty thinking.

And today we're going to explore the ancient Shanghai town of QiBao.

This 1000 year ancient town of QiBao is only 11 miles from Shanghai's center.
这个有着千年古镇之称的七宝距离上海市中心只有11公里。

Historically, it was known for 7 great treasures,
历史上,因为它的七件宝物而闻名。

Such as a magical tree, a golden rooster, and other mythical items.
一课神奇的树,一只金色的雄鸡和其它一些宝物。

I think it's incredible, actually, that you see it so close to, within the modern part of the city.

Well on this little street, it seems like to me there are a lot of little local food shops.

Local delicacies -- restaurant. Um, I saw a guy up here spinning what looks to me like a scallion pancake.

No, this is a dessert, I think.

Oh, this is corn, made out of cornmeal, but I think it's a bit sweet.

Here we are at lunch. We've got Shanghai dumplings,

and we also have these little birds on a stick.

That's pretty good, actually. That's really good, I have to say.
这个真好吃,恩,我不得不这么说,真是好吃!

Nice and spicy. He added some spices.
香香辣辣的。他加了点香料在里面。

Not bad! It's kind of delicious.
不错!真是美味。

Okay, to eat a Shanghai dumpling properly,
好吧,我们来吃上海饺子吧。

first you pick up one of the dumplings with your chopsticks and hold it over the spoon.
首先,用筷子把一个饺子夹起来,放在汤勺上。

Then you take a little bite like that, and pour out the soup.
然后像这样咬上一口,把汤汁倒出来。

Okay, this is the crab soup inside. Then you drink the soup.
好,这是里面的蟹味汤汁,然后把汤喝掉。

See, that's good to know.
看到没,知道这点很重要。

Ah. Mm. Delicious.
恩,好吃。

And then you dip this in the vinegar. I like to scoop up a little vinegar inside.

And then you eat it again.

Mmm. Good.

Christy, did you know that one of the sports of ancient QiBao town is cricket fighting?
Christy,你听说过七宝老镇的一项运动是斗鸡吗?

I didn't know it was specific to QiBao, I just knew it was something in Shanghai.
我不知道这是七宝独有的,我听说过在上海其他地方有.

Yeah, yeah, here in QiBao, ancient history,
是的,是的,在七宝这是一个古老的传统。

there were two types of crickets that were the most fierce -- the strongest crickets.
这里有两种非常凶狠的雄鸡,十分的强壮。

We're going to go inside and look as some of the cricket specimens.
我们进去看一下,看看斗鸡的真实场面。

Excellent! Can we see some cricket fighting?

This is the river going down QiBao town. We're now going under a bridge.

There are nice little tea houses and restaurants along the way. It looks like.

Ha ha ha, it looks like it's hard to do.

An ancient town so close to Shanghai, QiBao is a perfect spot for modern day treasure hunting.
作为一个离市中心如此近的古镇,七宝是一个理想的一日游宝地。
