easy-to-buy in China. In
Shanghai, most foreigners buy tailored clothes in the
South Bund Spinning Market. In this episode, I'm going to show
you a better way. First let's walk through here, and I'll show you some
of the different stalls and the things you can find. Ties are a wonderful thing to buy in the market.
A lot of them
are
only 10 RMB and then they go up to about 50 RMB.But
I think these probably are about 10 or 20 RMB, and that's a good
price. Some of the different stalls have different things.
This is a silk stall, so most of her fabric is silk. In this store, I like to buy fabric for shirts.
Fabric is
really
good in here, and it's a good price.
Then you can take it to Fatty in the alley,
and he can make the shirt for you. I have
my clothes
made outside of the market by an independent
tailor named Fatty. We'll go to his shop in a few minutes Here's some more scarves and some China
handicrafts. This
looks
like a woman's cape up here and some
silk bags.These are also
nice gifts
that you can buy from inside the
market. Fatty's
shop is
on 275 Duo Jia Lu, caddy-corner
from the main market. He's always
happy to help customers directly. "Hey Fatty, my friend! Hello!" " Hello!" “你好！” Since Fatty doesn't sell fabric, you should visit him first to find out
how many meters of fabric you'll
need to make a shirt, suit, or dress. "Three point eight." “三米八” " He told me I needed 3.8 meters for a 3-piece suit. Then you simply go to the
market or alleyways and buy your fabric yourself. These are the old
streets here
where the markets used
to be. And you can see the new city
being built off in
the distance. You can still find some
good bargains here for the fabric that
Fatty and others
can make the suit.
In places like
this outside
of the market, you can still find good bargains on fabric. This
is
the same
good quality -- some of it is
different quality
than in the market, but the price is a lot cheaper. I'm looking for
something like that -- black with white stripes.
I'm going to
keep going,
keep looking at some other places. I want a 3-piece
Mafia-style suit. This street is a great
old street
for fabric, and you find it by the meter here all along the
way. Let's check out this place. 让我们看看这块地方。 "Hello. Do you have black with white stripes? Black with white stripes?" It's hard to find a good black with white
stripes -- the Mafia look. Ah,
here it is.
This is the fabric I want, so I'm going to buy 3.8 meters, and
take it
back to Fatty. Ok, success!
I bought 3.8
meters of fabric, and now I'm back to Fatty's to give
him the fabric and so he can measure me for the suit. Back at Fatty's Tailor Shop, Fatty and his wife are busy
making clothes
for other customers. "Hey, Fatty, Hello! I’m back." "Hello!" “你好！” "Can we use this fabric?" "Oh, this will work! It’s fine." Now he's going to measure me for the suit. I'm going to get a coat, pants, and vest. 现在他开始帮我量体裁衣。我很快就能拿到我的外套，西裤和马甲啦。 The good
thing about Fatty is he can make anything you
want --
just show him a photo. I even had some friends print
out a picture
from the Internet, and he was able to make it. "Now how much time? How long will it take?" "Ten days." "And how much? How much for for three pieces?" " Three hundred yuan." "See you in 10 day!" Okay, it's been 10 days, so it's time to pick up my suit, so we're going
to go back to Fatty's to see if it's ready. And
now we're going to try the pants,

China doesn't have to cost a fortune to
